BRING ME THE HORIZON Scores First U.K. No. 1 Album With 'Amo'
February 3, 2019According to Billboard, British rockers BRING ME THE HORIZON scored their first No. 1 album in the U.K. with their latest effort, "Amo". The disc had combined first-week units of 27,000, with 61% of its sales on CD or vinyl.
The band's previous best album chart showing was No. 2 with 2015's "That's The Spirit".
BRING ME THE HORIZON thanked the fans for the achievement, saying; "Thank you to everyone in the U.K. for getting our new album 'Amo' to No. 1. Thanks for buying it and streaming it and showing us support — it really means a lot to us. Thank you very much, we love you."
The record failed to crack the Billboard 200 album chart's Top 10 however, settling for a No. 14 debut with sales in North America of just over 26,000 units — close to the U.K. tally. Around 16,000 of those were physical copies.
"Amo" was released on January 25 via Columbia Records. The band spent last summer writing and recording in Los Angeles, with singer Oli Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish handling production.
Oli told Zane Lowe about the musical direction of "Amo": "We didn't really know what we wanted, but we just knew we wanted to be different. We wanted to still be BRING ME THE HORIZON, but make people feel the things they felt with us in different ways and try to do it sonically different. And it took a while to find that sound and stuff, 'cause I think, for me, I love the fact that I can sing now and I can write these lyrics that have important messages and they can almost stick in people's heads, so that they're easier to get across. So, for us, we still wanted those huge choruses, but I feel like we had so much experimentation in us that we've been dying to do for maybe the last five years or so."
Last month, BRING ME THE HORIZON kicked off of its Live Nation-produced North American headline tour, to be followed by shows in South America, Australia and a plethora of festivals around the world.
